The Ministry of Labor reviews the list of occupational safety and health management in a workshop in Asharqia Chamber.

Al-Sheikh: The list is a humanitarian document that raises the value and importance of human resources.

On Wednesday, June 6, 2018, the Director General of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, Ali Al-Ghamdi, reviewed, in a workshop that was held at Asharqia Chamber, the list of occupational safety and health regulations adopted by the Ministry of Labor and approved by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development on July 1 2018.

The workshop was attended by the Director General of the Ministry of Labor and Social Development in the Eastern Province, Abdulrahman bin Fahad Al-Muqbel, the Chairman of the Energy Industry Committee and Board Member of the Chamber, Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, and a group of employers, occupational safety and health officials and those interested in occupational safety and health in the Eastern Region.

Al-Ghamdi explained that the list is a binding document for the targeted enterprises to develop the level of safety and occupational health in the establishments, as it is an encouraging regulation for the participation of decision makers in occupational safety and health in the workplace.

Al-Ghamdi said that the list consists of interrelated administrative processes, starting with planning and development and ending with implementation, coordination and supervision, which help enterprises in different fields in developing their level of occupational safety and health management.

He pointed out that the private sector and all those who fall under the system of work - for example, the hospitals that are operated by self-employment- are the target groups by the regulation. He stressed the need to establish the institution's occupational safety and health policy and should be written clearly and accurately and in the languages that most used by the members of the establishment, with the Arabic language as the main formulation of this policy.

Al-Ghamdi pointed out that the development of the regulation was based on the study of the relevant international practices, as well as on the evidence of the International Labor Organization in occupational safety and health management.

He pointed out that the list was divided into five pillars; each corner contains administrative requirements that the target enterprises should apply, and that the requirements of the regulation have also been divided into three levels of requirements, namely (minimum, intermediate, higher levels).

Al-Ghamdi said that the minimum level requirements include the elements of occupational safety and health policy, organization, planning and implementation. The requirements of the intermediate level are including the previous elements in addition to the evaluation component.

These are mandatory requirements, which required all facilities to comply with them. The higher-level requirements are optional as they contain more advanced occupational safety and health practices.

In addition, a member of the Board of Directors of Asharqia Chamber and Chairman of the Committee of Industry and Energy, Ibrahim Al-Sheikh, emphasized that the workshop was part of the joint efforts between the Chamber and the Ministry of Labor to identify employers, occupational safety and health officials and those concerned with the details of the list, its elements, contents and levels of application.
